Default Problem: Overheating? (03 impreza)

Hi,
On long drives (about 2 hours or more) the car starts to judder and lose power at 3k revs and above. It feels a bit like clutch judder, but on a bigger scale so to speak. The car feels as if a lower gear has temporarily been selected for about a second, and jolts, then carries on as normal. This happens in every gear.
Occasionally the accelerator pedal will stop functioning completly for about 5-10 seconds, which is pretty troubling as you can imagine.

Could it be the engine is overheating and I should slow down a bit?

Sorry if this post doesnt make much sense, I was just wondering if it was my driving skills (or lack thereof) or a serious issue with the car. Anyone got any ideas as to whats going on?

Are you sure it's not very bad clutch slip?

No, it could well be. Although it only occurs after a couple of hours driving, which is what made me think it could be overheating?

Could be the fuel tank not letting air in to replace the fuel used and creating too large a vacuum. Try opening the cap when it does it next time and see if the problem goes away.
