Default classic MY97/98 with STI V7 gearbox and rear diff

Hi guys,
I would need your great knowledge and advice, please!
A friend of mine has got a classic MY97/98 WRX and bulit in a STI V7 6 speed box.
Now it comes to the reardiff, where mechanic got stuck!
The rear driveshafts do not fit the big reardiff of the V7.
How can we go on, need the hub of the STI V7, but does this fit the "small" driveshafts of the WRX?
Has the WRX 99/00 bigger shafts in the rear, than the 97/98?
Would a diff from an older V3/4 STI fit?
Would they fit in the STI V7 diff?
Questions and more questions, please someone let me know, how it can get rolling!
Many thanks in advance!
Greets

Hello Markus

I asume it is a JDM STI V7 Gearbox? If so, the easiest would be if you change the rear diff to a non-turbo Impreza Diff but be carefull it must have the following printed on the Diff Case "T1" and it should have the 6 bolts on each side to open the case. This diff is not a limited slip one so I would use the diff from your old Impreza with the pinion from that non turbo diff. In my case the axle stubs did not fit that non turbo diff so I needed to exchange the diff anyway.

After changing to all that it will work perfect, I just did the same 1 week ago. The Problem is that your V7 Diff is R180 but you need a R160 Diff for the classic Impreza unless you exchange the whole rear end to R180 (Hubs, Brakes,....) big job which needs lot of money.

Greets Chris

P.S. I asume I know you so you can also email me in german if you need further advice ; )
