OK,....bit of help please.
I've just come back from an awesome day at Oulton Park and noticed that the inside of my tailpipe has changed colour from it's usual sootyness to a clean crisp almost golden/light brown colour, ????
Now the only thing I have changed in the last 24hrs is I've started using NF octane booster with me Optimax instead of the usual Pro-Boost !!!!
Any ideas folks ?
Thankyou in anticipation.

I've heard of this before and think its normal - nothhing to worry about as I remember from the thread a yr ago!
Dont know why it goes that colour though
Thats a question for the Likes of Adam M - the walking and talking Subaru car encyclopedia
You bringing your 1.2litre P1 to the Well Lane day?

Mine did the same after the Bedford speed and feed in May, I usually run SUL + millers and have a sooty tail pipe, but by the end of the day it had turned to this gold/copperish colour, this also confused me so I had a look at some other cars there and a few of those were of the same colour. My thoughts were that it was caused because I was driving more in the higher rev range than usual but then again I could be wrong. By the way it's sooty again now

Sounds alot like it was running lean. As you toodle about town it'll get blacked up again of course.
I'd be careful about that, especially with a P1 with straight through system on track...
May have just been a bad tank of petrol.

My tail pipe always goes that colour after a track day or a long fast motorway cruise, its just heat thats burnt off the overfuelling crappy soot that is normally left on the tail pipe.
You touch your tail pipe after a normal rush hour cruise home and then again after a fast motorway run, OUCH will be your response to the latter

Mmmmmmm.....cheers for the replies, I've been running Optimax since it's launch and hope this fuel is OK , I've heard a few peeps are not happy with it, always used Pro-Boost until a couple of days ago and now use NF formula.....anyone else ?

Just a thought but....
Octane Boosters are normally based on manganese (I think) which is yellow. Could it be that you've just got mangnese deposited on your exhaust? I know that when I run OB I get a yellow back bumper around the exhaust.
As I said, just a thought and ready to be corrected.

I remember the days when you used to look at your spark plugs to see if your carbs were set up properly, ah, them were the days oh yes blah blah dribble....
IIRC Black plugs was too rich, white plugs too lean, tan plugs about right.
Just a thought

Just to confirm that the techy thread a year ago said that it was chemical deposit from the octane booster and was normal, and nothing whatsoever to worry about (just wish I could remember word for word- but I only have a 'short term' photographic memory!)
I use Optimax with Millers - get no net at all! - before with SUL and Millers I got occasional det noise.
My cars had the actuator changed so its boosting back up to 1.5 bar now........ I was limited to 1 bar at the NM6 - what a difference an extra 0.5 bar, makes with my erm, larger than normal turbo
Wont do too well at the rollig road meets as wont have had the injectors changed - nevermind
Mellow - you gonna sort that ECU out then?? - and the erm slow driving.....

Steve....Lol.....thanks for that mate.
Still debating the power upgrade, I'm going to see what it's pushing on Sunday as last time on an extremely hot day it did 303 bhp and to be honest most "experts" have advised me to leave the car as it is due to it's reliability etc.....I'm off to TSL next week for DMS golds though, so as the story goes, if the car is set up well, it should go even better......we'll see
Hey...I do drive slow........when I'm pulling onto my drive

You'll have to tell me all about the DMS golds
At the moment I'm more concerned with my stereo system not working - never put in Dynn Audio Speakers - they are crap - poor design build!
