Scooby sport told me if I change my down pipe I could get an increase of up to 30 bhp, is this the case, has anyone else noticed
an increase and is it worth having it done.

P.S Is it worth having the mid section changed, I was thinking about getting it from scooby, ive already got the back box from them.

What do you think, please let me know.

Thanks again

Yes yes yes.
Do it.
Just make sure you get the heatshields trimmed and refitted afterwards.

The choice must finally rest with you..... a mid and DP will give you a good increase. Depending on your car, it MAY render it illegal due to removal of catalytic converters... unless you're talking about Petes performance cat version of course....I'm running the DP and will soon be getting a mid of some kind..Most people on here (well, a lot anyway, run decatted pipes). It gives your car a lot more power and can reduce lag to some extent. You may also be able to get nice little flames from it if you're lucky..The ss full system can be a bit loud for some and not loud enough for others, so try and get a ride in a car that's been done..As with all mods, check with your insurance as well...
-: usual disclaimers etc

I had a scoobysport bb for about a year, then I wanted a bit more (like ya do) so I fitted the D/P, this made a huge difference to how the car felt, less lag and more sound , I've now fitted the totally illegal centre section so that I have no cats now I have even less lag, more noise, and more ooooomph.
I've even filled up with this Optimax stuff to get the best out of it!

30 bhp just for a down-pipe!!! More like 3. Whoever told you that should be selling double-glazing.

Scoby ,

Just had scoobysports full system fitted and can't say that I
have noticed alot of difference.
It does however sound great , but I don't think that u will
gain anything like 30 bhp.

I am at Well Lane on Sunday with the other boys & girls, so
should find out any increase in my BHP.

I also have an induction kit on my 95 WRX ra.

This is just my own opinion on the suject.

Has anyone noticed any REAL differences after fitting the
system ?

It's worth looking at Dyno.Scoobynet because i had a look in there for the first time last week and saw some figures on cars that have only had DP and Air Filter fitted.

There are other figures for complete systems, DP / Centre Sec. and Heavily Mod'd cars so it's very useful. I've basically decided to, at this stage, get only a DP and filter for my STi5 and see what happens. The only thing i have to decide now in "Which DP?"

I would say that an extra 30 bhp has been acheived by some people when doing only very minor mods. Some people have spent a fortune and not acheived much more (in the figures anyway).

Anyway, have a look.

Richard,

I have had my car on Powerstations rollers on two occasions, both in very similar weather conditions.

With standard d/pipe, no centre cat and SS b/box I got 211lb/ft and 256bhp.

With SS d/pipe, no centre cat and SS b/box I got 228lb/ft and 276 bhp.

I'm not saying it's 30bhp but it's definitely one of the best mods per pound that you can make on a scoob.

I think something has been lost in the translation here. Toby, I think Stuart said approx 20bhp for a full system.

Pete Croney,

Disregard what I said before about your full system.
Did not notice much improvment until tonight when I
decided to reset my ECU.What a difference this has
made.
It has now started pulling alot harder since the reset.
Well worth my hard earned cash.
I hope that I see the increase at Well Lane on Sunday.

cheers

Martin

Guys,

Gains will vary car to car, but whilst some cars will only make small bhp gains at the top end, all cars will get significant gains in the low to mid range areas.

Instead of just looking at "dyno figures", look at the graphs too, then you'll see what the real gains are.

You should also be looking at the "torque" gains. It's torque that makes a car quick on the road. 20bhp gain at 6000rpm is all very well, but how long are you at 6000rpm ? An increase of 20ftlbs through the mid' range makes the car far more drivable.

My full decat magnex and filter on MY96 gave 260 BHP on Optimax (209 standard)

I think the 96 has a bigger turbo though, so more power freed up.

I've an SS downpipe on my P1.

It works very well. The slight whooshing sound (unobtrusive) is just utterly delightful.

Question

I'm really interested to know how a full SS MY99 compares with a PPP MY99 on a B road blast.
Anyone got experience of driving both ?

I just need the DP for the full SS system

Got a magnex d/p PPP and HKS ex-manifold and APS induction kit
Without the APS i had 267 CV = 271 bhp and 35 kg m torque the d/p made huge difference
