Hi Steve, welcome to Scoobynet, sadly it sounds as if the nut which holds fifth gear in place in the gearbox is loose, this problem is not uncommon on the my99/00's.... it can be fixed with the box in the car if the right person does it, and if it's done early enough..... if you're anywhere near API in the midlands, that would be my first port of call if i weren't able to do it myself.... (which i did on mine!)

Hope you get it sorted soon, so you can once again enjoy the experience!!

Ron.

difficult to put into words... but if you read this http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/archive/i...t416306p1.html there's a picture posted by secretagent man which isn't showing cos it's an old thread.... paste the link into your browser and you'll get a pictorial idea of where you're aiming for.....

ps, it's the top nut in the picture....

pps... the cap lock key is on the eft of the keyboard... switch it off.... caps are seen as shouting on the net, some people get picky about such things!!

Best to get a new nut, cos when you tighten it up, you only get it as far as it was originally, therefore the two lugs won't be in a new place.... if you see what i mean!

you could try http://www.prosport.ltd.uk/ not sure what they're like, but at least they're local, and a scoob specialist!! local gearbox place may well say the box has to come out when it might not need to....

Steve, out of interest, what did prosport charge you for the 5th gear nut adjustment ?

I'm in need of the same thing on my gearbox. Thx

does it at all speeds .but if you keep your hand on gearstick its fine it doesnt crunch into gear or anything like that and sometimes it will stay in 5th gear untill you take foot of accelerator.

prosport charged me £150 for doing 5th gear nut should of been more though but they said cos it was still doing it they only charged me that much but had it stripped for 6 hours

I had this problem on mine a few years ago, only happened for 2 weeks before the bloody thing siezed altogether, couldn't get it into any gear so had to get a new box Get it looked at again before you have to get a new box
