What happened here ???....
1994 scooby wrx .. auto transmission ...
reved up to 5000 rpm and thrown into drive ..
Big jerk .. and the car went free and wont move at all.
In drive and a grinning sounds can be heard ..
but hold on a minute .. when towing the car back into the garage --
while pushing it, it comes back alive .. but slips and goes free again ...
so .. whats blown here then /??

5000 RPM and engage drive on old auto = Goosed.
Towing automatic Scooby = Goosed.
I suggest the simplest solution is to replace the automatic transmission with one that has not been treated in this manner.

One dead torque convertor. Autos don't like being put in gear with the nuts being rev'd off them. If you wanted to try a standing start you should've put it in gear and held it on the brakes, but then you'll have cooked the torque convertor

I just bought an engine from Grade A subaru.
Easy to find on the interweb....
Superb service (haggle for a free delivery - i got the engine delivered free)
They just break scoobys - they are the only breakers to give warranty
on the units they supply.
Worth a try for you mate -
Paul
