Ticking from Gearbox???

Ticking from Gearbox???
For some time now, Ive noticed a like a ticking noise when I drive my99 Uk turbo, its louder at around 30 - 35mph, it sounds like something in my gearbox is knocking and you can also feel the vibration through the gear stick, if you place you hand softly around the gearstick, without putting any pressure on it, you can feel judders.
If I was to describe the sound, I would say its like a "fan rotating and catching on something", - or if you can remember back in the day, when we used to put a peg with a card on our bmx back wheels to make the loud noise
, like a motorbike.
It sounds like soemthing is rubbing in my gearbox, also, since that started, Im getting fumes when I put my foot down, like oil smell,its all going to pot.
Could these 2 be related or just sods law it happened at same time???
