Exclamation Slightly slippy clutch..

hi all

im new here, just got my first impreza, 98 turbo2000 wagon, completely standard at the moment and im well happy with it.

the problem i have is that when in 5th on the motorway and i accelerate at around 3000ish rpm the engine revs up but very little increase in speed. if i lift off and then gently apply the power its ok, it does it in 4th also at the same revs. im assuming thats the turbo kicking in and running away from the clutch.

are these signs of the clutch on its lastlegs?

the cars got 81k on it and i assume a standard clutch.

any ideas on pricing for a new clutch and fitting? preferably uprated.

Thanks
Rich

Deffinately on the way out Rich, mine did exactly the same eventually in 3rd, 4th and 5th. As for Clutches I would advise the "EXEDY ORGANIC", people have said these holding 300hp so will more than cope with standard power, I would strongly recomend you get the Flywheel done at the same time, either skimmed or a lightend one fitted. David and the Crew at API fitted mine only 2 weeks ago, Excellent Service, Friendly People with good advise. Mine was on 77K and the original plate.

I got one as part of a Group buy and was £670 all in, flywheel+Clutch+fitted.
(Worth every penny).

Even if you need to travel its worth the Drive.

Mine was done by David and his Team @ API Engines/Impreza, they are based in Leamington Spa, Just off Junct 12 M40. That is a way from you however they are more that willing to let you wait for the car or Give you a lift to the train station or into town. I did a 150mile round trip and it was more than worth it, I also waited there, and the Coffee was on Tap.............., and if you get it done on a saturday i believe bacon butties are also free...............................

Davids normaly around here and may reply to you with a PM......

Also he has most parts in stock, so if you are gonna fit a De-cat down pipe/Exhaust or anything like that they will do it at the same time as it will be Labour Free as they have to take it off to do the clutch..........

Thanks for the recommendations 4eX much appreciatd.

I am off today, Saturday and back Monday, there is talk of a group buy forming although no one's bitten the bullet and set it up yet.

Talk to me Monday ' lightwave693 ' if you wish and we'll get your slipping clutch fixed once and for all.
