clutch problem
Evenin' all
Had this problem with the clutch pedal on my my97 for the last few weeks. If I have to break quickly and engage clutch at same time, when I then pull away the clutch pedal stays down and I have to hook it up with my foot.
Clutch isn't slipping or giving any other problems that I am aware of.
Thanks in advance,
Nick

it sounds like the return spring has popped off, look under the intercooler and you may be able to find the clutch slave cylinder, there should be a spring running forwards to a little bracket at the back of the block.....if it ain't there, thats the problem!

I actually know the answers to this.

Tension spring alread discussed. They rust and loose thier tension. A new one is cheap.

Not that?
Bleed the slave cylinder. Remove off box with hose still in place.
Remove plunger pin and sqeeze piston down to the very bottom of it's stroke in cylinder with a small clamp.
Bleed system using 5.1 dot fluid with bleed nipple pointing up.
Replace everything (and spring in (1) above.

Not that?
Time to be radical. Get under the dash. Remember to disconnect battery first!
Remove clutch pedal. Remove the assister springs off the mechanism (take care of flying springs)
Replace the lot.
Check adjust the free play (no more than 10mm at the rubber)
That WILL fix it. The downside is a slightly heavier pedal and the feel of the pedal is not so crisp at the top of the sroke, but you will get used to it.
did all the above to fix my pedal problem 2 years ago and all's well since.
Graham.
