EJ25 Open Deck Block - Few Q's
I have one of these in the garage complete with no failure. Thinking of stripping it and putting in some performance pistons and rods possibly from Crawford Performance or anyone else?
- Will be capable to withstand 400bhp/400lb-s torque approximately with the open deck bores? I assume yes if it is built up correctly and mapped correctly?
- The N/A EJ25 crank will be up to the job?
Was considering going EJ257 STI block route, but for the same money I could have a 'built' open deck block? Quite a few people are running over 400bhp with open deck on a 2.0?
Thanks!

Kael,
You can't compare 2.0lt to 2.5lt open deck blocks because there is far more material support on the 2.0lt. The main concern will be "bore walk", and head gasket integrity. I don't know anyone who's pushed the N/A block, and wouldn't want to guarantee it at this level.
The liners are strong enough for 400/400, but if you fit forged pistons, don't go over size, get a piston that will just fit with a hone.
The crank is fine. There are two versions, phase one, and phase two. Phase one has smaller diameter big end jounals, but seem to hold up ok ( Andy F uses the same) but you will need to check, if you want to change the barings.
Mark.
