Default Changing Oil more often

Is there any real advantage to changing the engine oil more often than Subaru recommend on a new age WRX.

Change the oil based on quality.

Semi-synthetics 4000-6000 miles
Fully synthetics 9000-12000 miles

If you're doing trackdays, only use synthetic oils and shorten the above periods based on track hours.

Cheers

I agree fully ................. I replace my Oil at about 4000miles and therefore use Semi-Sythetic.

I'm using Silkolene 10/50 fully synthetic Pro S and do about 10000 miles a year in all conditions with maybe 1 track day so it looks like i can save a bit and have it changed at it's normal service intervals .
Thanks

If it involves a lot of stop/start stuff I'd change it more often than yearly, irrespective of type or quality.

Agreed but what constitutes a lot of stop/start stuff?

It's a difficult one as I've asked the tecchies before and have never got a conclusive answer

Subaru recommend a set service interval, do an oil and filter change twice as often and you will not be far wrong, particularly in a modified car. I change mine eevery 5000 miles but its a hybrid spec engine, part GC8 and part GDB. So GDA/GDB every 5000 miles, GC8's every 3750 miles.

I'd agree with that Bob as most change intervals merely relate to stock road cars and yours is far from that.

Think i'm a bit more confused now, should i change the oil more often or not, i'm doing 1 track day this year, i do about 9000 miles a year and the car is not stock (about 300bhp now).

No, the Silkolene PRO S should be fine for 9000 miles and the odd track day.

I think Bobs car is a different proposition altogether.

I earlier asked Motul 300V Motorsport Power 5W-40 change interval from Motul.. they said that around 10.000km should be advisable interval for changing it. This was with earlier non-double ester version.

Fuel dilution is a major problem for every type of oil used in our cars so change them every 5000KM to be safe!
Only an oil analysis can tell you how often you should change SPECIFIC oil in YOUR car!

Yep,

Sadly fuel dilution will kill any oil no matter how good it is.

Cheers

Simon.
