Hi - have a 2000MY turbo (wagon with dog guard, baby seat and obligatory Winnie the Pooh sun shade) and I'm having clutch slip problems.
The car is booked in for a service next week but I've never had this kind of problem before and would like to know what I'm talking about.
Basically it's most noticeable in 3rd gear accellerating from 3k revs, get an extra 1.5k approx of revs for a few seconds and then bites again. Had it happen if 4th and 5th too. Doesn't seem to happen when accelerating hard in 1st and 2nd which is foxing me a bit.
Whole clutch gone? Clutch plate? Cable? Witchcraft?
Any info would be most appreciated - it's not that I don't trust the dealer - just don't want to appear thick!!

If I remember correctly you get more load in the higher gears so if your clutch is one its way out (through wear not damage) then it will start in the higher gears.

Time for a new clutch maybe. And personally I'd avoid dealers as they can charge up to £1k. Give one of the specialists like Scoobyclinic a call and get a quote.

You need a new clutch - thats definitely clutch slip. Mine recently went, started in 5th gear, at 3000rpm would slip about 1000 revs then drop back and accelerate, as it gets worse you get it in 3rd and 4th gears too. (Mines a MY00 classic saloon, went at 58000 miles!!).

Clutch is about £150 - £300 depending what power you have, and fitting was 4 hours labour (£55 per hour at robinsons main dealers).

Shop around, many people recommend AP organic, Exedy, etc. Do a search on here.

Its a DIY job only if you're mechanically very good and you have to take gearbox off, shafts out, exhaust unbolted, even intercooler off I believe!!!

as above. definetly clutch slip. will always start off in the higher gears cos load is higher. car has a hydraulic clutch, no cable. 63K is good if its still the original clutch anyway.

if its at the point where its slipping, you should budget for a new flywheel as well. the dealers will tell you that you need a new one for £250 but you dont. many of the specialists will do you a skimmed recon one in exchange for your old one for a much better price.

GG quoted around £700 (including scimming the flywheel) - have told the wife not to accelerate or change gear for at least 3 months!
Is there a cheaper solution....Fiestaboy??????

Have a look in group buys for the API Exedy kit that costs £315 inc vat and del.

I did mine with the help of a mate. Never again. I will happily pay £150 next time.

I recently had the exact same problem with mine

Had to replace the clutch and flywheel as mine had a fair amount of cracks in it.

However it's all sorted now and goes great.

Cost me £150 to have the clutch changed.

I fitted an exedy Organic 230mm Clutch Kit, not lot if any heavier than the std clutch and bites very well.
