MPH / RPM Reading

MPH / RPM Reading
Really enjoying the new car but noticing a few anomalies that I'm not quite sure of.
One of them is the gearbox ratio, it seems to be very short. In 5th gear @ 80 mph the car is doing about 4000rpm, is this right?
The car is a MY97 WRX and has been modded quite a bit, believe the car has a Group-N clutch so was wondering if the gearbox had been changed. What version/model should be on the car and where do I look for the number?
Thanks.

Is the car a Type RA? My STi 5 Type R does around 4000rpm at 80mph in 5th.
That is with a close ratio gearbox which the type RA has as well.
Have a look at this chart on the Ravensblade site which has some useful info.

You should find a sticker with the gearbox code on a lip where the Engine mates with the gearbox (look under the intercooler from the passenger side I think)
Check initially to see if it matches the transmission code on the VIN plate - if they are different its been changed.

Right, I've checked the sticker on the gearbox and the code on the VIN plate, they both match - TY752VBCAA. Judging by the info on the Ravensblade sight the ratio for 5th is short compared to others so seems to be right.
Thanks.
Thanks.
