Default GEARBOX- sti 5/6 saloon into uk classic

will i need to change the diff(s)
front,rear,prop or all ?

my uk classic my00 is upto 348bhp / 337lbs/ft torque
and with new exhaust(nur spec r) and fmic being fitted this week i really now have to be on the look-out for a new gearbox . . .
i did run at japshow last weekend but done a steady launch as i was 250 miles away from home, even with greenflag i didn't fancy the risk.

or,are there any other options ?

cheers in advance

Front diff and drops need chaning for UK ones.... the box is physically the same apart from that.... so prop etc is fine!

As far as i know, the prop is the same part, and i've never heard of a rear diff breaking unless with stupid power, so they'll be fine.... my box has gone now.... so thats the type r option out eh!!

still may go 6-speed
f..ked if i know lol

ive got a 2k budget set aside for a gearbox . . . . i applied for a loan for a set of 355mm discs n pads and a set of wrc-1 in anthracite 7.5x18
but looks like the money will be needed for a box

or spend 1250 on box and 750 on brakes keeping my 17s

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh,the joys of owning a modded scooby.lol
driving around in a poxy rover 400 at the moment while mines having fmic, catch can and a bit more done

I wouldnt assume your box is going to break as soon as you start driving it hard. I've done 4 drag days in the last couple of months and didnt hold back on launches.

Done 60k miles on box. 40k miles on around 260/270bhp and 3k miles on current spec (and counting). Driven very hard both on the dragstrip and road.

I'm not saying the gearbox wont break....just dont panic and feel you 'must' buy one before driving it hard.

You can even opt to buy another uk box which can be had as cheap as a cheapo clutch (£150-£250).

STi5/6 box s stronger but there are still no guarantees (£500-£750)

I have an sti5 box in a 99uk.
you need to have the corresponding rear diff to match and thats about it.
all the other gubbins are tucked nicely away in the sti5 casing.
I used P1 rear diff for information as its also a 4.444.
in total it set me back about £750 incl. fitting, although it was done at better than mates-rates so budget a bit more.
box is sweet, noisier than the uk one, the ratios 1-4 are nice, but 5th is a bind on high speed cruising (5k rpm )
may well stick a UK 5th in.

good to hear that bobs . . . i did an oil change the other day and overfilled it as advised
i put 0.7 in the rear diff, says 0.8 but it was full after .65 ish abd spilt 0.05 lol
then the rest in the box so,4.2 ish,,overfilling by 0.4 . . . .
haven't really noticed if its made it better tbh but im hoping i get a few more miles out of it
i went japshow at pod last weekend and was very cautious on my starts.
i have got it in the 12s @ 112 before but my best was 13.3 @ 106

peanuts - i thought 5th was the same , , i thought 1,2,3 and 4 were different . oh well,learn summink new again,lol.

think i may just wait till it pops but i am going jap racer day october 2nd at shakespeare and do wanna give it the max , think ill just do it,if it breaks IT BREAKS,tuff ****.pmsl.

cheers all
