Default Apexi PowerFC and 3 bar Map sensor

Hi:

Is possible replace the stock MY93 Legacy boost Sensor (is the same as the MY93-MY96 Impreza) with a generic 3 bar map sensor?

I'm planning to boost about 1,4 bar with my setup but with stock sensor the boost is limited to about 1,1 or 1,2 bar...

Does anyone have tried this?

Thanks in advance

i fitted the apexi boost kit that is made for the power fc, it comes with a 3bar map sensor and worked very well.

You are only limited with boost if you want the PFC to control it, and you want a boost cut. If you use an external boost controller like a Dawes valve or an AVC-R electronic controller, you can run what you want. The boost control kit is useful though, and on the early cars plugs into it's own 3pin socket on the side of the PowerFC.

Thanks friends

I was thinking in a cheap alternative to control over 1 bar in my Legacy rather than use a external boost controller or the Apexi Boost Control Kit. Sure I'd like to use a Apexi AVC-r or something similar, but now I cannot afford it because I'm buying a 550 cc Denso Inyectors...

Yep is a good idea, but I didn't explained my idea well... PFC can store up to 4 boost levels. My idea is have 15 psi and 20 psi, one for street and one for "race". The first one is easy with the stock sensor, but the second is the reason wish I though in a 3 map sensor.

I found a GM 3 Bar Map Sensor PART # 12223861 wich is calibrated from 0 V (0 bar absolute) to 5 V (3 bar absolute) and is powered by 5V. I don't see any reason which this won't work with PowerFC, but I'm just learning how this ECU works...

Any con by using this?

Thanks in advance

You can probably use this other map sensor yes, it would be bes to wire it to the boost control kit socket, as it will then not disturb the factory sensor.

No Carlos, utiliza el MAF para estimar los valores de carga

Having had first hand experience of an early PFC reading a higher rated map sensor I can confirm that it did not like it at all. Boost control was very erratic.
The control philosophy must be based around the original sensor voltages and expectations of a certain boost at a certain voltage.
With the boost control kit however it controls very well.

Does the PFC have a changeable fuel cut limit, when the MAP sensor sees high boost ? If so is this adjustable from the Hand Commander?

Or does the PFC not use the MAP readings when an external boost controller is in use?

I assume the 3 bar MAP sensor included with teh apexi boost controller and AVC-R work fine with the PFC and a high boost level ( over the original fuel cut setting is possible ? ).

Thanks

Neil

Bumping this thread because it's pretty on point...

I just finished an EJ20G swap out of a '95 JDM WRX into my GC. I bought a Power FC that I'm going to get dyno tuned in two weeks. The gas quality in California is terrible so I bought a progressive alcohol/water injection system with a 3 bar controller to raise the octane and to give the PFC and motor more to work with. I've heard MAP-controlled AWI systems are the best option.

Three questions:

1. Does my EJ20G come with a MAP sensor (my car is in the paint shop, otherwise I'd go out and look)?
2. Could I buy a generic General Motors 3 bar MAP sensor and use it instead of the WRX MAP sensor? My AWI system is designed to power a 5V MAP sensor if the car doesn't have one. Does this mean if I add a MAP sensor to the AWI circuit, it would be independent of the Subaru wiring harness?
3. If I bought the GM MAP sensor, what would be involved in installing it? Drilling through the manifold? Or somehow tapping into a vacuum line?

Please help a total newbie!

Thanks.
