RA box...what are my options?
I think the box is giving out too much noise in fifth to be unconcerned about it, so i thought i'd look at what my options are for replacing it/renewing parts?
I don't want to spend major amount's of money on it, as the car is simply not worth it, but still having the Lateral clutch makes me think i could have quite a good set-up, if i kept it.
Very happy with the ratio's, even on the motorway, but i still don't know what the diff's are all about, if that matter's to what i go for?

a rebuild or 2nd hand replacement will cost you roughly the same. if the noise is there in all gears but gets progressively worse/louder as you go up the gears then you may well get away with replacing just the bearings which are pretty cheap and not such a difficult job. ra box is the nicest box imo.

when was box oil last changed?
redline mt90 can be just the job for quietening the whine, and a lot of the time it will help the synchros behave a little better. others swear by motul. its not the ultimate cure but it could buy you some extra time while you decide what to do.
alternative;
do fekall an it'l get so noisy yul be able to fool people into thinking you have a straight cut rally box.

Fifth is resonably easy to change, not even sure if you may be able to do it with the box in, It is on the end and as I remember can be changed without stripping the box, worth looking at before it spit`s the bits into the rest of the box though,
Have a good one
