Default Stuck open thottle

Coming in to work this morning, after being flat in fifth, I lifted off the throttle..........but it didn't close!!! Wide open throttle, and nothing I tried would clear it.

I managed to get slowed down, and eventually stopped, shutting off the engine straight away to avoid the revs hitting the roof. After checking the throttle pedal and linkage were clear and moving OK, and after speaking to my garage on the phone, I took the chance of starting it up, and it had cleared itself.

needless to say, i took it easy on the rest of my trip. My garage thinks it might be the idle control valve which had stuck. Has anybody else had experience of this?

Problem solved - it turned out to be the little rubber grommet on the thottle linkage bracket fixed to the top of the engine - this had come adrift, and slipped down the throttle cable, jamming the throttle linkage.

Thank god it was an easy fix, even if it will now need to have a careful eye kept on it!

it was scary enough even though it wasn't jammed full-open, and i was on a nice straight road with no traffic.

definitely *NOT* an experience I want to repeat.
