Question "BIZARRE EXHAUST"

... a quick question: i have heard an unbelievable sound on a subaru impreza in bradford - a sound that i have never heard before and can only describe as weird and bizarre! i am 100% sure it's from the exhaust... it's no blitz or hks and the infamous 'burble' is missing! it's difficult to describe but here goes... a very loud "screeching" sound (more like a bee) - spoke to a few scooby specialists who just like me advised that there is no such 'bit' that can be added on... one or two had ideas of their own as to what the owner had possibly done but weren't happy to advise others! they thought that the owner had replaced the inner of the exhaust with 1-2" pipe and i quote... "drilled small holes" - they said it was "very bad" for the engine and for the car as a whole! my question to you guys is simply: WHAT IS THAT SOUND and HOW IS IT CREATED?

Sounds like an equal length manifold.

Its not a proper scooby if it dosent have the burble. Thats one of the main reasons why i love mine so much......of course there is the awd, turbo, wrc connection and bucket seats.....blah blah blah.......

PMSL!

Yeah and a service history to be proud of

You are talking about a car that's a serious engine problem there.

If it only makes that sound under hard acceleration then it could well just be the PPP; my MY00 made a loud screech that came on quite suddenly around 4000rpm on WOT. I asked around at the time and, although it's not often mentioned, it's quite normal.

Lack of burble means equal length headers, fitted as standard to JDM STIs from the last few years and a popular upgrade for other cars, it gives better gas flow and smoother response at the expense of the nice noise.

There's a scoob round here that doesn't burble, and is somewhat raspy at revs...it certainly is missing something.....

A turbo!
