just a quick one. if the gearbox goes bang, lost all drive, funny noises etc, then is it likely there will be loads of crap and bits in the box oil if i drain some out to check ? Im trying to differentiate between a knackered box or a ripped apart clutch.

Iv just looked at the car again today and its hard to get it in any gear, altho when i start the engine + start to release the clutch in any gear it still gets a biting point. except for 2nd.

am i right to assume second gear is probably in 500 pieces in my gearbox now ?

 

when i stripped 3rd gear there was a huge bang and when you drove it sounded as though marbles were rolling around in the gearbox

 

bad news for me then !

 

anyone else got any thoughts on this, anything would help

 

this is a big clue to a broken gearbox

 

Mine done the same when I smashed third gear. Big bang follow by metalic rattling, luckly I managed to the car back home very slowly.

 

My classic did the same TWICE - broken gearbox - Now have six speed UK sti box in , And the cars for sale !!!!!
