Some gearbox oils (synthetic 75w-90) are suitable for road and competition LSD's so they can be used but be careful, most are not.

Your alternative is a dedicated LS 90 oil for diff only and use a dedicated 75w-90 for the gearbox.

Cheers

My 96 RA came over with a plated diff, makes loads of noise when I turn slowly, this type needs a special oil Castrol do one, I changed it for a Viscous unit STD fitment, this type uses the same oil as the gearbox. I somehow ran the plated diff dry don't know how as it was filled up to the level plug but since discovered that the plated units take up more volume therefore less oil, I now drop the front of the car and make sure 1Ltr goes in instead of the .8 Ltr recommended. No leaks, 4.444 diffs are difficult to find.
