Tapping noise from Head/cam
Hi
Just taken my car to a track day. Got chucked off for the car being to loud . Oh well. It didn't cost me anything.
When I stopped, I noticed that the engine was making a tapping noise (defiantly not there earlier). The sound is coming from the rear of the passenger side head. Its defiantly not a big end knock, as centre of the block is quiet. Doesn't sound like an exhaust leak more of a metallic sound. I have driven 150 miles home at 80 on the motorway with no performance lose car is running fine. The cars a Uk MY99.
Can anyone shed some light on the matter.
Thanks
Tom

had same prob with mine - after a nice drive with an evo i discovered a tapping/knocking noise too. Turns out the sound travels up and was a big end failure so me and me mate replaced them, main bearings, crank, seals, head gaskets bits and bobs etc - runs sweet as a nut now, all thanks to dave at api, very helpful chap!

Right all sorted
Went to Power engineering this morning. They had a listen and confirmed it wasn't a big end gone. After some uming and aring. One of the engine builders mentioned that it could be a lose spark. He pulled Piston no.4 ht lead out and it just fell out. It had been arking between the HT lead and the Spark head and that was what the noise was.
Now the Scoobys running sweet as a nut. Well chuffed
Thanks for everyone's help
