coolant leak - pipe next to cross header rusted thru...
as far as i can tell the pipe (approx 12mm in diameter) that runs accross the top of the header is rusted thru and leaking coolant. it sits just behind the rad next to the block and is approx 12" long with a couple of bends along it.
it looks as though it could be a pain to get at the header is in the way of the mounting bolt.
anyone had to replace one of these pipes before ?? is it a common fault or an i just unlucky ?? any ideas on cost of a new one or where to get one ??
can anyone tell me how i replace the coolant afterwards ? looks a little daunting compared with the simplicity of my old vauxhalls . is there a procedure to follow when filling it back up with coolant and bleeding it thru ?
also what coolant should i use, normal bluecol stuff ok ??
cheers

Sorry mate, cant picture which pipe your on about (piccie?)
As for refilling, i've found its quite easy. Fill up through the overflow tank (Where the rad cap is) until its full, squeezing the top and bottom hoses helps circulate the water. Once its full (approx 6-7 litres) make sure the heater is set to max heat and start the engine, let the engine tick over, any air bubbles should work there way through the system and out of the header tank, keep topping up as neccasary (another litre or so).
Once its full replace cap and fill the coolant tank (by the battery and headlight) to the correct level (shown on the side). Job done.
Obviously when you replaced the correct pipe, check for water leaks throughout the above process.
Most quality anti-freeze soloutions will be fine.
Good Luck
