Solid tappets, not sure if the valves are different & the cams look different to my 93wrx ones

Not all STi 2 have solid tappets, as the tapping noise from mine would suggest.

They were hydraulic up until the Sti 3 was launched with the phase 1.5 engine and underbucket shims. However it would seem that the Sti 2 RA had top hat underbucket shims...well Andy F's did, but lord knows if his was a 'normal' car in the first place

This is a STi2 RA underbucket shim etc I believe, difficult to get hold of.

Why won't the image thing work?

hence the sti 3 heads being a lot more expensive

actually, I have been reliably informed recently that all imprezas have solid lifters, either over or underbucket shims.

Only legacys have hydraulic lifters.

Tgus the heads should be good for 7k rpm, only the pistons wouldn't be in the older engines.

This comes from someone who has taken apart more engines than anyone else I know of.

Who said that Adam?? The service manual for pre97 Imprezas lists an hydraulic lash adjuster as part of the valve assembly. Would Subaru really produce these documents for their dealer network and fool them by not fitting them?

On cold mornings you can actually hear mine take time to 'pump up' .... i'd like to take a big bet mine has hydraulic adjusters

Tony.
