Thumbs down Is my engine about to go bang

Just had the 90k service done to my bank account.

All was fine for about a week.

Then.....

under boost the car stutters like mad the boosts into action (overboost I believe)

I have cleaned boost solenoid (losing knuckle skin, mouth full of brake cleaner and the little nut that goes under the airbox...half hour job turns into major swearing 1hr job and several pints)

Gets in car warms up, some light footed short bursts.....ok no probs. Lets go for the heavy foot dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug, dug,du gga dugga dugga dugga and off we go.

Sheeeeeeeeiiiite not fixed.

(mods are decat only)

Any suggestions as after the 90k the bank account can ill afford a rebuild.

Lamba, boost solenoid, piston gone (though I mucho doubto that one).

Help and previous experiences required for frustrated scooby owner

When did you do the de-cat? as on my first scoob after a de-cat it just kept on over boosting and needed setting up.Or also check your ht leads as i also had that as the lead kept failing

What was the result

You'd think after paying good money they'd get it right.

Just what i was about to suggest, especially if the hesitation happens between 3-4k! In fact, when was the last time they were changed?

similar symptoms with mine (my99) only 35,000 miles on mine aswell, i got it compression tested.

The result?

compression loss on 1st cylinder indicating knackered piston or rings

anyone managed to fix something like the above even remotely cheap? I really dont want to go down the road of getting my block reconditioned.

If it was overboost you'd know about it. When the car detects overboost it cuts the fuel, the result can only be descibed as driving into a brick wall - it trully is not a nice experience!!

I'd be thinking along the lines of;

1) An ignition problem of some description, ie plugs or HT leads. Possibly coil pack but unlikely on an MY99.

2) An air leak someplace between the turbo and the engine. This will cause the car to run rich when on boost effectively strangling it.

3) MAF Sensor.

Initially I'd be looking at 1 and 2. Unless your running an oil covered air filter or an inducion kit in which case I'd look straight at the MAF.

Hope some of that helps
