Manual boost controller setting (MY03)
Hi all - I'm considering a manual boost controller until I can afford a remap
I've got a boost gauge and am getting a knocklink ASAP.
How far can I set the boost controller (safely)? Will it hold boost cos the current wastegate doesn't?
Car is a MY03 WRX...
Cheers people,
James

you will hit fuel cut so don't bother
turbo will get very very hot
if you are not bothered about warranty a guy on a thread on here just got very good results with just a green panel filter and exhaust backbox change, much safer way

new age cars don't respond well. avoid it until you can afford a remap as the consequences of an mbc aren't good, and the prospects aren't that much better.
basically you'll remove ecu control of the boost, and the fuelling. the ecu won't know how much fuel to give, and you will run very lean (and very hot) when it gives you full boost on a partial throttle- without the fuel to support it. you'll also find it very twitchy as far as power delivery is concerned.
unfortunately fitting an MBC to a new age Impreza is a bit like buying a new M3 and fitting one of those 'sound like you have a turbo' whistler things to your exhaust.
sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear mate. do a search on 'dawes device' for more info.

Are u guys talking with solid proof or based on hear said?
Are u using USA WRX data on EURO wrx's?
My03 EURO wrx have fuel cut at 1.25 boost. And at partial throttle full boost, AFR shows that the mixt is at 11.1 all the way (at 1.15 B).
Saw this on a WRX03 of a friend of mine. So where is the prob of installing a mbc/dawes in a my03? Much better response, at lower rpms, and wonderful boost all the way.
Regards
(btw: the partial throttle full boost is a USA WRX prob, not EURO. Because of pollutions rules, the ECU delays for 2 secs the fuel correction. On those 2 seconds, at partial boost, the mixture runs lean, and detting may occur. This prob does no occur on EURO cars, because no delay occurs, on slight throttle, mixture shifts immediatly to 11.1....)

GFB in Australia do not have a problem recommmending a MBC either.
You'll get 16Psi in first instead of 9Psi, it makes a hell of a diffrence to the car let me tell you.
Fuel cut is at 17Psi and it's safe up to that.
