Default Air intake resonator box removal -MY04

Ok, i've read about doing this to aid breathing and bit more intake noise, but i've seen a few different ways:-
  1. remove resonator and snorkle thingy althogether, seal up unused hole in inner wing from where the snorkle thing passes through in the wheel arch, and then create airtight seal between airbox and inner wing, so air is pulled in from the wheel arch only
  2. Replace resonator with a plain connector between the snorkle and airbox (as sold on www.scoobymods.com)
  3. Remove resonator only, create air tight seal between snorkle and inner wing (so air is fed from the front of the car into the inner wing) and create airtight seal between air box and inner wing (so air is drawn in from wheel arch.
Will be running an STI air filter, decat and TEK 3 remap when mods are complete.

Any thoughts, comments???

Sounds okay, but since you're having a tek3....I'd got for a cold air induction kit which will give you more power again...cotton filter then sits in the inner wing with lots of lush cold air...

Look on ebay.

Did this a while back.

Here's what I did:

You'll need a re-map though as you'll be taking in alot more cold air.

Cheers,Been scared off from fitting induction kits after reading on here.
Bob, i remember reading that thread when you posted it, have you had it on the rollers and/or measured the intake temps?
I think option 3 sounds like the best plan

Wouldnt be scared off from induction kits personally. Just make sure its secure and doesnt vibrate too much.

As for the airbox mod....I havent tested it on rollers or measured temp. Would be interesting to see what diff it would make though. I know it made a diff on the road which I measured with g-tech meter. I would recommend you take it easy if you do fit it prior to re-map as you would do with a good induction kit.

not entirely sure whether I will stick with the modded box or fit an induction to mine when it comes to mapping. Might even take both along and see what the mapper makes of the diffs. I did ask the question on here as to the effectiveness of the airbox but didnt have any conclusive answers.

As your taking the box etc out you'll see the logic of removing the bits and that more openings = more air. I put holes in every side but the engine side and removed the bonnet rubber too.

Maybe I'll be the lab rat

I've bought an STI filter now, so don't want to waste it

I've got a knock link now, so should be a good indication if has made it breathing better or not, i.e. increased knock until remap
