Default Just changed Gear Box and Diff

Hi all,

Just changed the JDM 6 speed and rear diff oils.

Gear box, Castrol Syntec - 75 - 90 fully synthetic, says OK for LSD vs. the Castrol Syntrax which says a no go for lsd's. Took about 4.2 Litres to get to the full line of the dip stick, does that sound correct ?

Rear diff took almost 1 litre ?

If for some reason I start having problems with the synchros because of the fully synthetic oil can I just drain a litre and add 1 litre of regular gear oil to the mix ? Is it ok to mix reg gear oil with fully synthetic and will this help with the synchros ?

Thanks,
Ray

Hi conq,

Fair enough but I thought someone on here that is well respected is using a mixed oil setup with great results.

Cheers,
Ray

You don't need special LSD oil if you have the standard front-rear Suretrac units except your center diff is DCCD (I guess your car is <MY04 right?)
In every case DON'T mix synthetic with mineral oils even same brand...

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/produ...tentId=6004023

That is the gear oil I used, notice it's SYNTEC and not SYNTRAX, notice it also says ok for LSD unlike the syntrax. What do you guys make of it, ok for my car ?

Cheers,
Ray

You don't need LSD specific oil for the rear mate (Suretracs work with common gear oil) but for the front as your gearbox contains also the DCCD unit your choice is correct.
JIM

PS: For more info have a look HERE
Hope this clarify things...

Hey Theo, thanks for that info but I have the JDM STI7, no dccd.

Wow Deep, very nice indeed

Yup, still got the old STi7, no new mods but I have located a supplier of race fuel so this has helped with detting issues

Take care and enjoy that AMG (one of my dream cars LOL

Cheers,
Ray
