Default Quick query - will this work okay?

Need to swap my hks d/v flange with somebody as I'm upgrading to sti8 i/c soon (from sti5/6 i/c). This will mean having to take my HKS d/v off until I fit the sti8 i/c.

Will it be okay to run the standard OEM d/v on vta?

I only ask as I cant seem to locate the re-circ pipe.

Sounds like more hassle than turning the garage upside down to find the return pipe.

How about just blanking it off, or will my piddly td04 not appreciate this?

Only a short term measure (about a month at most)

IMO, it would probably kill the turbo.

You can get filters from Halfords with Ripseeds i think, a cam breather filter would do.

Filter will draw in unmetered air at idle though if running on the OEM ECU.

surely the valve is closed when its not dumping the air (ie air pushing out of the i/c on closed throttle). Dont see how unmetered air would get in with or without filter?

Try it and you'll see, this is the reason why the OEM DV can't be used VTA - it sits there gaping open at idle. Forge recirc does the same until you shim it so much it will hardly open. If you want VTA, use a VTA DV.

I'm not asking so I can have vta on the cheap . I already have a HKS SSQV but as mentioned earlier I need to swap the flange with someone who needs one for an sti5/6 i/c for a flange for an sti8 i/c (which I need). The sti8 i/c is not fitted yet and I cant seem to find the return/re-circ OE pipe so was looking at whether or not it is feasible to use OE d/v with the return pipe as a temp measure.

I wasnt aware that the OE d/v was open on idle, but now you have advised that, I know that its not possible to use the OE d/v without re-circ pipe.

Guess I will just have to try and source a oe re-circ pipe before parting with the HKS flange....or just stop being lasy and fit the sti8 i/c

Thanks for clearing that up.

What you are trying to say is you want VTA to be a cheapskate (of which I wholeheartedly approve) rather than a Chav
