Default clutch advice

hi all,i've just become a scooby owner(8 days) for the first time and loving every minute of it but i have a problem, clutch has been juddering when cold and the other day when riding clutch waiting to pull out i got a burning clutch smell in the car,so tonight i was testing clutch by slipping it a bit and putting on the power and managed to get the clutch slipping when foot off clutch so i need a new clutch, the car is a 51 plate bugeye(23000 miles) with prodrive middle(de-cat) and back box.i'm not planning on any mods but may go for ppp ecu at sometime,so can anyone advise what clutch would be best without going over the top,i've done a search and some people seem to advise the borg&beck clutch,is this one the standard 3 piece clutch set they do or is it a sports range one or is there any other clutch which would be ok,i dont want a cheap one but i dont want to spend unnecessary money on a clutch that is over rated for the car.also as i have a judder when cold is it best to get flywheel skimmed even if it seems ok or to just replace the flywheel as well?? any advice much appreciated.

Cool

Simply fit an AP organic assembly and bleed the system with Dot 5 fluid.
Fit-and-forget solution.

Its Exedy That make the Borg & Beck Clutch.

I would recommend these as i have one on my 99 UK Turbo theres no judder or nothin and they have fairly good ratings on here.

Not 100% on there performance on a bugeye but i cant see why they would be any different.

heres the Pics of mine

I didn't have my flywheel skimmed the subaru specialist i took mine too said theres no need unless its excessively worn - Some may dissagree

It was £150 fitted at a local garage in Bolton called "Smiths Garage" only takes about 4hrs i had the gearbox oil changed aswell for £30.

regards the flywheel its prob best to wait till the box is off and you can have a look.

bought the clutch from a local supplier for £105

ok mate,i'll ask them at the shop, manufacturers sometimes source them from elsewhere when they have problems with their own.

Not being funny but if you slip the clutch with the pedal it will slip with your foot off as it will get hot...

I got a problem with my clutch on my 95 wrx turbo. i got recommended this place

http://www.autospares-group.com/

which do ADL blueprint clutchs and the Borg & beck

i got quote for mine for:

ADL - £177.?? + VAT

Borg & Beck - £96 + VAT

they will need you model number and your engine number.

my mechanic is asking me for £280 to Fit it (you guys think this is reasonable or expensive he's the best mechanic/Auto electrician ive seen. can fix anythink and the work is pure quality work) the think is im on abit of budget.

thanx

I used to run a Borg and Beck and it was fine up to around 300bhp, but it couldn't handle my current power so I got an Exedy organic.

I got it fitted by a friend who works for a subaru dealer but does work on the side, he charged me £110 to fit it.

So is there a difference between the borg and beck and exedy organic , i ask because i feel i have been ripped - paid 200 quid for an exedy organic not fitted as the clutch was completely worn out when i got my car, but now it feels like i paid twice what i should have

Rob
what made me do it in the first place was that it felt/sounded like the engine revs were climbing more than the speed when excelerating out of a corner in second gear,as the car is new and my first turbo car i wasn't sure if it was the turbo i could hear or wether it was the clutch slipping.so i thought the best way was to dip the clutch when excelerating and when i did the clutch slipped when i had brought it right up,i didnt think it would over heat that quick so i presumed it was a worn clutch.

Yes there is a difference, the Exedy Organic clutch is a performance clutch, the Borg and Beck is just a standard replacement clutch. Exedy also do non-organic standard clutches under thier own name, which is probably the one you have for £200. The Organic clutch is around £350.

Where is the best place to get an organic clutch for a V7 Jap STI bug eye with several HD mods?

Exceedy, AP, Helix etc? Which is the best to hold 375 p/trq ?
