Engine cutting out on acceleration, help!
Wasn't sure where to post this, so sorry mods if it's in the wrong place.
I have a problem. Had my classic MY97 STI for a few months and just yesterday it has started cutting out under hard acceleration. The engine cuts for a second then comes back to life for 2-3 seconds, cuts out again and so on. The strange part, is that it only does this between 4,000 rpm and 5,500 rpm then it's fine all the way to 8,000. Does it in all gears as far as I can tell.
Anyone had the same or can suggest what the cause might be?

Had a similar problem with mine. It was cutting due to overboost. The car was not actually overbossting, but thought it was because of a clogged up wastegate.
I am not very technical, but the solution involves spraying some aerosol cleaner stuff into the wastegate or something like that. It's a known problem, so a forum search should find the correct solution.

I've had a similar problem with my MY94 STi
I will be going down the road in 5th gear with my foot down accelerating and at about 4000 rpm it cuts suddenly then after about 1 second it carries on going no problems, i can't recreate it all the time though, it's only happened twice

The 'condition' will progressively get worse as mine did.
Always precisely ar the same rpm.
If you just throttle back a touch as the spot arrives you will drive straight past the prob every time too!
Boost controller is the answer.
Sometimes this prob arrives after a decat is fitted.

problem will be fuel cut due to over boost.i replaced the boost control soleniod and all is well. it wont cut out when driving steady because the wont be alot of turbo press. when pulling hard turbo spools up,overboosts so ecu cuts fuel. hope that helps
