HI folks, i'm gonna service my scoob soon (my95 STI2). As it's my first time doing the scoob are there any tips? I know the oil change procedure but what about the plugs? Any special tools needed or anything to watch?

plugs are tricky
you need an assortment of flexi joints and extension bars to get in properlly

wind the plugs in by hand a bit before you tighten them up with a ratchet as its pretty hard to see exactly what your doing half the time

leave the plugs out until you have put fresh oil in, then crank it with the new oil in for 30m seconds, then put the plugs in, i have read it on this board that this is the best way, and if you dont, it could harm your engine

read the handbook for the correct amount of fluids to add and gauge them oput before you start pouring, that way you will know how much to put in, then just check the levels in the normal way and make your fine adjustments

wind the plugs in with rubber hose it stops them cross threading
remove airbox and battery for better access
ive got a 3in extension bar which gives perfect fit/length with a plug socket
a wobble joint is easier because the plug +socket and bar are a little tight against the chassis rail
are you doing the gearbox oil,diff oil and cambelt as well?

Make sure you fill the new oil filter with clean oil before fitting it....be warned they may look small but they hold a helluva lot of fluid, fill it, let it stand, fill it again, let it stand, ......i did this 4 times when i changed my oil

I posted this a while ago as a DIY service schedule.

Engine Oil - every 4 months, car isn't driven hard and does about 700 a month
Gearbox and rear diff - Every 12 months
Plugs - Every 12 months
Maf and Lambda - Every 24 months - dependent if MAF pops in between time
Fuel Filter - Every 18 months

Brake fluid change performed by local Subaru Specialist. Also would take car to said specialist every 6 months for inspection of things like CV boots etc and just a good check over for faults.

One thing I haven't included is power steering fluid - when should that be changed?

Changed my oil and plugs a few weeks back and found it easier to change the plugs using a 3/8 drive ratchet rather than 1/2 inch. Most of the time is taken removing things to get to the plugs but when you've moved airbox, battery etc it only takes a couple of minutes to do the plugs.

30m seconds, as in half a minute or 30 milliseconds? Anybody have more info on this procedure and the reasons for it, I don't understand why?

I think i need a new battery as my car wont travel 30 metres in a second on the starter motor.
