Depends if you have changed the downpipe for something a little different then the whistle is pretty normal. If it increases when accelerating then this should be ok. However, if it sounds labourous (please don't ask me to explain) then there is the poss that the turbo bearings are kaputt

Other than that get it checked.

no nothing has been modded onto it only a blitz super sound , from apr racing , thats the only mod i have on it and its only been in the last hour its started to do it ,

the only thing i done to the car since was open the valve on the bov to make it louder , and im wonderin if ive opened it 2 much oor tightened it 2 much and the bov is squealin with an open air way somewhere , and air is escaping or whatever , but performance is not laggin or anything like that as i can tell not 1 bit really

I've heard that over-filling with oil can contaminate the boost solenoid, which-apparently- manifests itself as a whistle on acceleration. I'm not a engineer or mechanic though, so I'd get it checked out by someone in the know.

Best.

Red face small animal trapped near my i\c

I have a similar issue; sounds like a high pitched scream and gets more intense as boost rises...I have had a quick look and think it may be the pipe from the BOV on the right (on my MY00 anyway), as the rubber seems to have degraded quite badly...at least I hope that’s all it is I'll replace the pipe with a Samco (or similar), as soon as I find out exactly what it's called!!

Anyone had experience of this weirdness ?!?

I get a whistle around 1500 - 2000 rpm just when feathering the pedal its almost like a pipe leaking, but checked everything...when its on boost its a different sound, was told its because of open neck downpipe and filter in air box?? Maybe true cuz nothing before i modded....Goes well ands not causing any probs

Mine is at peak boost and only started doing it after sitting around with engine on\off for over an hour whilst trying to get out of the Jap Performance do at Santa Pod. Seems to be less power on full boost but that couls just be me worrying...

Trails, what MY do you have? Impaired performance is another symptom of a contaminated boost solenoid and Pre MY99 were particularly vulnerable IIRC.

I have had this problem and couldnt find the cause.

I havent yet removed the heat sheild from the turbo yet to check if its the turbo to down pipe gasket.

Sounds like a screaching whistle, but only when it hits high boost.

Bloody annoying, coz Ive been through every pipe, join etc and cant find it.

I hope someone comes up with the answer soon.

I have heard a similar sound on a car that had a dodgy catalytic convertor, and am wondering wether this could be it?

Do all you others have the dp cat inplace?

Yeah, full de-cat. Check the hose from your bov, I'm sure its that...need a voluteer to sit in the engine bay whilst I nail it to try and locate the noise he he he

Hmm, if memory serves, the MY99 onwards were less susceptable to contaimnation in the boost solenoid due to over-filling with oil, so its less likely. I'd go with Dij's suggestion mate.

Best.
