Hey you lot. I am new to this forum so I am hoping you will help me if I need it.
Anyway first thing I need help with is can I get a Impreza in a 1.6 or is the smallist turbo engine 1.8. Please help me as I am about to take my driving test and I want a scooby. Cheers you lot.

I think they phased out the 1.6 and 1.8 non-turbo models in 1996 and they were pretty rare back then. 2.0 non-turbo is about the smallest scooby you'll be able to find realistically, they still have All Wheel Drive so will handle like a turbo model - just not as fast.

I started with a Lada Samara 1.3SLX, it cost £700 tpf&t for my 1st year.
Now i'm paying marginally more than that - for a P1
A bloke i was at school with bought an XR3 ( )when he passed his test, it cost £2000 to insure tpf&t - and that was over 13 years ago!

As has been stated, start small, its cheaper
You can pick some good cars up for around 1k, they are cheap to run, cheaper to insure than a subaru, and you dont mind denting it.
A subaru will rob you on servicing, 6 monthly intervals, cambelt changes every 3 years, every 2nd year will cost you over 400 quid you could be looking on average 400 quid per year, plus tyres (they have to be decent so your going to be looking at 70 quid per corner!).
On a 1.1/1.2 your going to be spending 100 quid per year on servicing, low tax class, good fuel economy, cheaper insurance, cheaper tyres..... motoring isnt cheap, and when your starting out you want to keep your budget low incase you need to repair/replace stuff on your car, considering that impreza's are quite and expensive car to work on, you would just be skint all the time.

ok thanks for the advice you lot. And after reading all of the replys I am about to buy a 1.2 renault clio (the facelift version) and it is going to cost me more than I would like to pay but it has be modified a bit so what can you do.
