Question STi V3: Going back to a full cat system.......

My stock Sti v3 has a full decat open neck Magnex system on. I am contemplating refitting for good the original STi system.

My plans for the Xmas garage season is to fit Gruppe S headers, Andy F TDo5/20G, Apexi FC and an Andy F map, Walbro/550cc injectors.

What do you think I will loose taking the 3'' Magnex system off?

I hill climb the car if that makes any difference.

WHY would you want to do that ?? Possibly to fit a similar Scoobysport system [ supplied and fitted by API of course .}

IT WILL BE less responsive etc etc with a catted system on. Can't think of a single reason to do what you ask unless you've been nicked or can't [ temporarily ] get through an MOT.

I only ask because if I need to fit the down pipe to get an MoT what a game just to do that. Then it would make sense (just) to leave it there as the other mods will give quite a boost to the motor.
When I fitted the Magnex there didn't seem that much change to the car except for fuel cut problem. (and a better note!)

Looks like more money....will still take you up on your offer David.(ref PM a week ago).

If I do change the system might as well go for a 3 1/2 inch drainpipe?

downpipe is a doddle to remove and refit tho

although i didnt refit my bottom nut (the one thats hidden by the open neck design)

mines fine and doesnt leak, i have got my turbo swapping time down to about 1h.45mins (washing hands on the 45th min) and that includes the downpipe and stuff)

piece of cake mate

Just swap the mid for a catted one. Many people have passed with one in place. There a re a few "modified" centre cats on here that people will lend you - much easier to do than mess with the downpipe.

OK, is the centre of the Sti v3 system a cat or just a resonator?
I have swopped the centre/rear once for the MoT but the tester didn't bother doing the test! Thus I have no way of knowing if it will do the trick.
Thanks as ever to you all for the advice.

My Sti3 has gone through the last 2 MOT's with a standard UK centre section only and has passed the emissions tests ok. It is standard except for the HKS 3" downpipe (catless), Scoobysport backbox and a K&N induction kit. Stainless bolts on the exhaust sections so fitting and removing the centre is a 10 min job.

p.s - if you remove the Magnex - send it to me pls

Bloody hell stickymicky! 1 hr 45min to change a turbo. Takes me about 4 hours! Bottom nut is easy from the underneath.

I would like a centre cat section to use at MOT time if anyone knows of a cheap source.

Ill have to ask for mine too then Both of us have them on our cars. Superb systems!

With regards to this problem on topic, UK cats will pass fine if you just do the centre.

Cheers!

That's great!
swopping the centre is easy. Just need to find one now.
Kevin, I got my Magnex 3'' from Motorsport News 'trader' for £200 secondhand, you could see your face still in the stainless back box!

The bargains are out there, just that most get to them before me.

I fitted the std catted system to my car before selling... The car still had the 20G on it...

OMFG!!!! how strangled! i know the car was well mapped but i honestly didnt expect the power loss in quite such a big way.. From 400 to 300 in one fail swoop...

yeah im getting good at it now, had it on and off about 5 times scince i got the car (1.5 years)

i dont have a 1/2" ratchet either lol, i had to use my telescopic wheel brace and a few extension bars for the turbo to up pipe nuts

broke the ratchet while doing sum suspension work a while back and neer got around to replaceing it

Danny, that is a very kind offer, thanks. I had the car Mot'd about2 minths ago, and the tester (who is very symathetic to the car) told me he can't pass it again unless it gets a 'pass' off the analyser, hence all the words here about a cat etc.

Thanks to everyone as ever,

911, swapped the centre resonator on my STi3 for the Power Engineering 3" stainless sports cat, apparently rated to 400bhp, a (well the seller did, as I was buying it with an MOT!). the front cat was completly knacked and it now sails through the test. Just need to ditch the old catted down pipe.
