I'm interested in this too - what sort of gains can it give over say a PPP ECU for the MY99/00. I am running a full Decat btw

A Tek2 (not the official name) Is an off the shelf standard map very similar to the PPP. A Tek3 (again, a name it's picked up) is a custom map for a given car to suit it's specific mods. There is a gain to be had over the PPP but probably not worth the money unless some serious modding is to take place

1 void warranty and i can't see any real gain myself as the WR1 is probably already running a relatively aggressive map

If a Tek2 is off the shelf who actually mapped it was "Ecutek" as a company?

Various companies do their own off the shelf (Tek2) map using Ecutek software. So if you bought 3 Tek2's from 3 different companies, you will have 3 different maps
A Tek 2 is designed to allow for very basic mods on a car. The map it's self will be safe so it won't (hopefully) cause any engines to go bang

dont think that you can ecutek the wr1 without a few modds first, might be wrong.

also the car will be mapped to run on the fuel you use, if you have a jap import designed to run on 100ron (octane rating-in basic means a fuels resistance to det, the higher the ron the higher the resistance) fuel but the best we get in britain is optimax 98 ron. so unless using octane booster you could have problems with det. so you could have a jap import designed to run on 100 ron remapped to run on normal unleaded 95 ron, but you would get a bigger gain using super unleaded 97 ron or optimax 98 ron. anyone with modified car should fit a knocklink £150 ish, a device that detects det, as prolonged det will kill the motor.

I know this sounds bad but you could buy say a 04 standard sti, pick up an ecu from a breakers have it Tek 2'd slap it in. If it all goes t*ts up put your standard ecu in & toodle off down to your dealer for a claim?

JM

If this worked Subaru must be up against it... what a pickle!

My RB5 has a full de cat, blitz sus filter,VTA dumpvalve(i know it doesn't make it quicker ) and a TEK 2 and it runs 279bhp & 264lbft torque, pulls nice and smooth all the way thru the rev range and the boost slowly eases off as the revs climb, the power line on my rolling road printout is a perfect diagonal line from 2500 rpm to 6800rpm,the torque line is completely flat from 2500rpm to 6800rpm ish.
So smooth you'd think it was a factory spec map aside from the extra grunt

RB5Paul - what sort of tek are your running ?? I mean is it like the tek2 or the Tek3. The onyl reason I ask is I am running a MY00 'WR' Scoob at the moment - PPP with a full decat. I had to drill out the restrictor because of problems and it seems to be fine.....I am however wondering as to whether I am getting the best out of my Mods (running s full *Original* Scoobysport Decat) and uprated STI panel. I have no idea of what the car is currently pushing out ?? but would like the sort of power figures you have quoted for your RB5 Does the Tek enable the MAF to not be used when calculating fuelling ?? cos I notice you are running with a Blitz induction kit ?

The only problem with that is you would have to go to the dealer to get the keys coded to the ECU before you got it mapped or it wont start.
