Default twin turbo legacy problem

one of my friends has just brought an 'm' reg twin turbo with 150,000 on the clock with an hks electronic boost controller, and induction kit and he's got three problems

1, slight miss which we think is a coil pack so no big problem there but are they the same as a uk impreza?

2, does anyone know how to work the boost controller as theres no instructions!

3, when accelerating hard as the second turbo comes in although it doesn't do this all the time the rev counter drops to 0 but the engine doesn't stall and it won't rev. drop down a gear and within a second or so it all comes back to life is this a saefty thing or is it problem with something?

scoobyboy,

1. Misfire could be plugs aswell, also cheaper

2. Can't help you with the boost controller, not a good idea with a TT, unless you really know what your doing, things go bang very quick

3. Sounds to me like you've hit the boost cut, which was probably caused by the HKS boost controller being set too high.

The rev counter droping to zero is the sign of a coil arcing out, it happens in RS leagcys to (BC5). What type of HKS controller is it? TT only use the wastegate on the primary turbo to control boost (abelt havin a wastegate on each) so using a EBC is more than possible

While you are fixing bits up, why not fit an earthing kit? They can improve the signalling which is oft dodgy on the older cars...

Removes one other potential source of "intermittent" gremlins, too.

must be a ebc then because it goes to both waste gates and you can set the time that it gives more boost for. some one else said it could be the waste gate control valve as well how reliable are these?
