Yep, new style oil filter is a lot smaller, i wasn't happy at first but i have now had two on (changed again at the weekend) and they are fine. Still holds loads when you are pre-filling it !

Arrrh! Are you talking about a bugeye filter?? I bought a new filter yesterday and went to fit it, but it was a lot smaller than the one on the car so assumed that it was the wrong one. Its not a subaru one so can't check the part number.

Nope filter for a classic (think they all may be the same size now but not sure)
And yes it does look too small I did the same thing initially, phoned the dealer up to give him a good ******* for giving me the wrong part only to then consume a large piece of humble pie when he explained about the new size.

Wasn't very happy as I had already removed the old filter and dropped the oil before I discovered the size of the new filter.
