Wink recommended ECU tuning software/hardware?

Some months ago i put up a thread saying that i was interested in engine tuning and I was recommended a few books : Engine Management by Dave Walker and 21st Century Performance by Julian Edgar.

I have read them both and have learned a lot but to progress further with what i have learned i feel ready to start some real tuning with my own engine.

Can anyone recommend the software and tools i would need to make a start with monitoring and tuning my engine? I have a UK MY00.

I have been looking for a way to do this and have looked into things such as the Delta Dash which seems to allow you to monitor systems, but not modify as far as i can tell. Is there other software I could use to do this and where can I get it?

Any recommendations you have will be helpful. (just so you know I am a professional software engineer so i am not averse to compiling software or modifying hex codes)

If you have any information that you can give me please post it here or mail me as per my profile.

many thanks in advance for your help.

Cool

Sam

If you can E mail me direct with your phone number, I have some experience with Power FC's, and could help out. I cannot promise a full remap, however having owned a car with one fitted for a year, I have obviously learn't what not to do! ( A blown engine was the result ). I also have the FC datalogit software on its way to me at the moment. Just to give you some idea, I have mapped my own car to give a reliable 300bhp plus ( with other mods of course ) and have now covered 7000 miles without problem ( Should not have said that it will blow up tomorrow )

Just to go off topic for a moment, John (customscoobyiom ) can you call me as I have been trying to get hold of you, cheers mate.

is there a way to tune the standard ECU?

If i go for a PowerFC, is there a specific model I need which will fit the ECU loom on a UK MY00 turbo?

cheers

Standard ECU mapping: you need to purchase a commercial tuning package from Ecutek. For a single car this is not economical.

yes John I looked into that. It's not just uneconomical but according to their website they only supply it to companies with a customer base, so even if i wanted to stump up the cash i couldn't!

looks like i need to either find some different software that works on the standard ECU or get myself a PowerFC.

I already have an AVC-R boost controller installed, will the PowerFC work easily with this?
