Borg & Beck Clutches
My OE clutch is slipping badly now so need to get a replacement sorted asap.
Been looking around and while i don't want to part with £400 for an AP kit, neither do i want another OE kit from Subaru.
Any opinions on the Borg & Beck kits (approx £200)?
Cheers,
Paul

We sell the Exedy organic, which is the basis of the AP Racing organic, we buy them in Japan direct from the OE manufacturer and sell at sensible discounted prices for a 3 part set. I can also supply the Exedy manufacturers clutch as a 3 part set with a decent discount on Subaru price.
Exedy make 99% of all clutches in Japan for the OE market.
For further info give me a call Monday. We can fit too if you're anywhere near Junc 12 of the M40

I am running a Borg and Beck.. been on for just over a year and 25,000miles.. touch wood absolutely perfect.. no judder (I had judder on the old clutch but didn't bother changing the flywheel). Car is no longer standard... and I do a fair amount of towing with it.. I paid £85 but believe they are more like £120 now.. bought from

I disagree that the B&B is less quality.. couldn't tell the difference..
You pays your money and takes your chance..
It is taking about 310bhp with no problem..

Mine has been on now for 6 months, 10,000 miles, used every day, running 280 bhp. Never had any problems. Only bought 'cos other fellow snetters use them, plus Jap Innovations fit them.

I'm just stating that the build quality of the B&B is not the same as OE. You only have to place them side by side to tell that there is a diff. The mechanic who fitted it did comment on this.
BTW I'm running lightly modded with a B&B clutch and everything fine thus far. Although I wished I had changed the flywheel at the same time...blasted judder!

Comparing the old OE and the new B&B the quality looked perfect but then one was new and one had 124,000miles on it
Are you refering to the clutch plate itself of all of it? the pressure plate looked identical along with the release bearing.
I didn't change my flywheel but am not suffering with judder.. it happens occasionally after doing a lot of towing but dissappears again with normal driving..

Simon,
The part that looked diff in terms of build quality was the clutch cover. The OE one looked more robust.
Let us know when you get 124,000miles on the B&B clutch
Cant go far wrong @£120 and I would say it would be me choice for a std or lightly modded car.
My flywheel had some high spots on it but I just rubbed it down as I didnt have a fresh flywheel to hand. At first the judder was almost unbearable...car stalling, judeering etc. Now its more of a mild judder which I can live with. I'll see how the B&B copes with a TD05@1.3bar soon....I'm assuming it will need replacing with an uprated clutch but the B&B may have different ideas.

lol well it has done 25,000miles.. but does less motorway than it used to..
Currently taking 1.2bar on a TD05, was running 1.4bar but knocked it back to save the gearbox at the moment.. no clutch problems.
I didn't even rub the original flywheel down just took it off to do the crank seal just in case and replaced the spigot bearing and refitted the original flywheel.
If you want something uprated the talk to Mark at www.lateralperformance.co.uk but ring rather than email as he is busy.
Also Rally Colin that posts on here is a good place to have one fitted and is in Reading.. along with API David I believe offering value for money.

small bearing in the middle of the flywheel that the layshaft runs on..
As I had done lots of miles I replaced that and the crank seal as a precaution.

Cheers. Will bear that in mind next time I do the clutch. What do you think of your TD05? Did you change from a TD04? Comments welcomed http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...52#post3494252

No car came OE with a TD05.. I love it..
mine is not front entry.. yet.. lol
It is cheapest to remove the bearing and take it to a bearing specialise than get one from the dealer, just depends if you can get it out in time to get it to one whilst they are open etc..

I fitted the exedy one with the uprated bearing, supplied by APIDavid....
Running 280 and soon to be ... MORE.... - it used to judder like hell, but NO probs since the new one went on.
