About iON Performance
Hi guys...
I've been in touch with some people from here (like J. Banks, R. Dowset) witch I thank really a lot.
I'm looking for an engine swap on my STi7. First I was looking for a 2.5 CD (I-Speed) with an iON turbo but after calling Jack from iON he advised me a 2.2 CD from us... I know that they have nice turbos but I don't really know if they 're serious for engines...
Thank

The I Speed 2.5 Block is ten times better than the USDM 2.5STI block.
I myself have an I Speed CDB 2.65 Litre short engine going in soon and a iON Performance Garrett GT30 Internal wastegate P650 turbo. Let you know how I get on.
The 2.2 Litre CDB can be overbored and stroked to 2.5 as needed.
Remember all the rest you need to upgrade too, transmission etc.
Jack is an extremely knowledgable guy too. The engine he will build will be frictionless, thus will flow extremely well.
What do you want at the end of the day power wise?

I'm hoping around 500HP, but not with a drag engine.
I thing tranny will support this power and torque, when I say tranny I mean gear set, not the clutch of course (change for a twin disk like HKS, Cusco or Exedy)

It if was an EU destined car then it will have small ports, if it was a JDM car it will have the larger ports. Either way you'll be taking the heads off to build the engine and the port size can be addressed.
On another note ports dont always have to be large, depends where in the rev range you want the power to come
Some tuners actually epoxy the ports up to reduce there size by 30%, this speeds up the velocity at which the cylinders fill.

That's right, I've read this into Four Stroke Performance Tuning (A. Graham Bell) about small/large ports.
I've european STi7 so with small ports. I'm not a hight RPM fan (my max power is around 6000 rpm)

Andy, ever mind the engine, maybe they can build me a "frictionless" drivetrain/transmission, so I get zero losses

PS Just out of interest - been running over 500/500 for the last few months and done a couple of thousand miles. Many of these miles have been driving very hard to set up for racing and drags. And the car has done the equivalent of forty full fat drag starts, and around ten RR runs(which had the tyres smoking!)
The point being that the clutch and box I am using have stood up very well. The only slight incident was the clutch sticking to the plate on a drag start - but I managed to release it and it was fine.
The clutch is a Lateral Performance paddle clutch, normal single plate (five paddles) and the box is the Lateral Performance PAR kit, built by Barretts Motorsport. The gearbox is a synchro kit and does seem work well when assembled at zero tolerance!

"gearbox is a synchro kit and does seem work well when assembled at zero tolerance" - even if it was done to zero tolerance, and was 'frictionless', it would still have failed, I'll wager, if it was part of the same batch John and I had

I don't have the frictionless spec, that is the unobtainium upgrade and was just too expensive for me.
As a measure of how much torque the engine is pushing out, fifth gear broke from the shaft as it sheared the Woodruff key - which was the upgraded Phase II key!!
What the issues, there is no doubt the spec that I have works very well.
