Car judders when on the clutch
Hi all
When stationary and pulling off in 1st the car really judders at the bite point of the clutch, a bit in second and is fine through the rest of the gears. It only really happens when the engine is cold(ish) and there is no slip that i can notice. There isnt a problem with the engine for sure and have notice on a hill start that it sometimes snatches. Any ideas?
If the clutch is mullered, what the best one to get and whats the cost of the part/fitting?
Its a 1993 wrx saloon modded
Many thanks
Johnny

Hi mate..
If you do a search, you'll find almost every one suffers from it. (well, classics anyway)
Dont think it's anything to stress about, mine does it every few days or so.

Yeah it done it for a bit a few months ago and stopped. It was fine today aswell.
It keeps her happy as i told her a clutch was about £350 and she tried to do a head lock on me!!

Judder occurs as clutch is not picking up the speed as the flywheel touches it, so shudder and judder.
Could well do it if you engine brake / drop down a gear and the revs are too high for the gear, the speed mismatch gives judder.
Reverse is worst on mine!

There is I believe a revised clutch mechanism that can help, but the Subaru technical note pretty much tells the dealers to say 'they all do it', and mechanical surgery is only to be attempted if the customers screaming legal action..
