Pete, NOTHING should be on the sump plug. I would take it as a Gypsies warning and get it fixed.
I do know what a pain this can be!
Good Luck

Castrol syntrax - available from Halfords

Pour down the gearbox dipstick hole - use a funnel with 6" of fuel tubing pushed on/taped on with a few layers of insulating tape...

That is not nice.
A good box man is Rally Colin, put a callout for him on here, I might be able to get his email/tele No for you tomorrow from a friend.

Peteruk300, found the same problem on MY99, when i changed to syntrax ,**** myself to when i saw the crap on the magnet, however box is still running fine and has just had another gearbox oil change, 20000 miles on, since i found the same problem still going strong.
I would run it until it fails.

Would not doubt Eprom's experience, but a W1 (or Type 25?) sounds better...

Good luck whichever way you (both) go.

Took it into the dealer. They are having it in to strip it down and take a look under warranty.
I have a couple of other warranty jobs (minor things) they will have a look at as well....

Definitly will extend my warranty in September

All the best
