Default MY01 WRX EXHAUST SECTIONS

Okay,i have just purchased this model car complete with standard exaust,i'm looking to upgrade from the downpipe back for now.I understand there is 4 section's from the turbo, downpipe with cat, short section with cat, centrepipe, backbox.Had afterburner/centre pipe fitted to my classic and was well pleased with this, therefore will probally use the the new vortex system again from Scoobyworld. But if i replace the last 3 section's leaving the catted downpipe in place will the car need mapping?

hey mike, on the MY01 there is the uppipe (before turbo) downpipe (after turbo) then 2 centre sections, the one after the downpipe has the cat, the 2nd one has the resonator, then the backbox
the ones with cats are:
uppipe
downpipe
short centre section

hope this helps

But can i change the backbox, resonator section, small cat section, leaving the downpipe,up-pipe section in place without re-mapping the ecu?

Hi Mike,
Go on change the lot Mike, you know it makes sense(even if it makes the wallet a tad lighter).
I gave Ron my phone number for you if you wanted to give me a ring or perhaps I will see you at the next meet?
I think you will find the remap would apply after the downpipe/up-pipe change.

There was me thinking about replyin too, I reckon you'd be safe withh all bar the d/p Mike, might need the gadget that fixes the CEL though, then remap after the downpipes done, cos it will!!!

I've kept the up pipe, but replaced all others (downpipe, two centres and back box) - all Scoobysport. Apart from applying the CEL fix, I've had nothing more done. The car has done 50K + miles in this condition with no ill effects. The car is driven in a 'spirited' fashion and has done several trackdays. As far as I'm aware, the newer ECU will learn the changes quickly and compensate the fuel mixture. I can honestly say, I've not had anything bad happen as a result of the exhaust change. If you were totally decatting, then yes, a remap would be essential.

I think the CEL fix is after the downpipe has been replaced, but if you went down that road then the remap would sort out the CEL.Also I would advise that you get the modified downpipe/up-pipe(cant remember which)as this helps the EGT sensor from getting knackered to soon. But then Knowlesey@ Xtreme scoobies could advise you on this(and other people can, but Paul is MY preferred choice).
And haven't you two got anything else better to do @10:30pm on a tuesday night

Actually I was telling a fib I did have an EGT failure about a year ago. However, the dealer I spoke to said he had seen as many failures on standard exhaust WRXs as those running modified systems - he put it down to a possible faulty batch, so I am unconvinced that this had anything to do with the new exhaust system.

That's coming up in July I reckon it might be OK, as long as the car is nice and warm and they do the emissions test first. However, I may have to take it to a friendly MOT station just in case. Certainly will be interesting to see if it does pass first time.
