Thumbs up K+N 57i on MY99

Is this the MAF killer I am told it is? I have heard that a dry filter like a stainless steel one is best for this MY? Which is it?

I was under the impression the 57i was the only MAF friendly induction kit, as long as it's secured properly to prevent vibration...?

Wouldn't have thought the risk of oil contamination was any higher than the K&N panel filter (pretty low). I thought the main issue was vibration ...?

There's no reason why the fitting of a K&N cone filter in itself should accelerate the demise of your MAF sensor. Whether or not that happens will depend primarily on how well secured you make the MAF tube after fitting.

Provided it's secure enough not to get beaten about, while being sufficiently isolated from engine and body related shock loadings not to vibrate the MAF sensor to bits, there's no reason to think the lifetime of the sensor itself should be affected one way or t'other.

However, you shouldn't confuse the issue of MAF sensor damage with that of MAF sensor misreads, which many cone filters can cause, and the after-effects of which can be just as dangerous for your en

Who told you that? The safest all-round bet for the MY99-00 cars, unless you've had a remap, is a panel filter fitted in the original induction tract, and one which doesn't shed oil, "mucus", or other airborne contaminant.

K&N's panel filter is fine, as are the Green and STi alternatives.
