Question ECU Mapping problems with STi Type R

had my scoob (STi6 Type R Ltd / full decat / uppipe / STi panel) mapped the other day, mainly so the engine doesnt go bang again and for a bit more power

problem: forgive my lack of technical knowledge but it comes down to the fact that i cannot reach target boost in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and only in 5th (1.35bar), the car actually pulls better in 5th then in 4th! but feels flat in the lower gears (may mates 270bhp turbo 2000 is quicker ) , something to do with a parameter that cannot be changed individually for each gear but just across the board? the mapper said this prob as occured before on type R's and is working on a fix.

Was wondering if anyone else as had the same problem and what you had done about it???

it was also mentioned it may be best just to get a new ecu, GEMS, MOTEC etc.

I'll let one of the ECUTEK mappers answer in more detail, but I though there was a way of doing gear based boost compensation in the JECS 99/00 ECUs.

I assume your car has the longer 5th being a Ltd so the boost differences are more noticeable.

AndrewC, i dont think its the long long 5th. At 4000rpm im at 82mph? maybe a standard sti 5th?

custom, yep Pats on the job he's a good'n. is there much advantage me getting a MOTEC, considering i dont intend to mod the car anymore? (at the moment anyway )

Pat mapped my STi 5 Type R Ltd, hits and holds 1.3 bar in all gears - from 3krpms up(I have since changed to an induction kit, and with the boost creep I am now getting, hit over 1.55bar - hence driving it like a pu$$y until I can get the wastegate ported).

Pulls fairly quickly in all gears

Peccy, it was a Tek3 yes.

Mods I had when mapped:

Blitz Nur Spec R,
"Pat" spec 3" downpipe with splitter,
Uprated Fuel pump,
ITG panel Filter (which I think shagged the MAF up - hence the induction kit).
Not that it matters, but I am running PFR7B's

I kept the 2 port solenoid (pat didnt think a 3 port was necessary, although Bob Rawle recommends for better boost control - cant see any problems with my boost other than creep).

Apparently, with the idnuction kit, the breathing is way too efficient, and with the wastegate fully opened, it is not bypassing enough gas from the turbo.

Had it on some rollers recently - which didnt seem loaded up enough (i.e. boost was only hitting 1.1 bar at 4.6Krpms, even so, it managed 301bhp and 270lb/ft - I would imagine a road figure (with the extra boost) to be +20 on both! (will find out next week when I have the money to order deltadash!

ecutek should be fine if you dont want to go any further and dont intend to do changes yourself.. speak with pat / ecutek and im sure they can sort it.

3 port solenoid (with appropriate mapping) or AVC-R would help. Or an MBC.

The gear judge is for UK 99/00 only as it uses the (missing) inlet temperature probe's boost tables and feeds them with acceleration rather than temperature as a trim to maximum duty cycle.
