Question Limitations with TMIC...?

Hi all,
I have a 99 uk car and am in the process of going over to a td05. I am toying with the idea of an Apex'i ecu but would like to retain the TMIC, which I have upgraded to STi5/6 and full Samco setup.
What are the limitations of TMIC (with waterspray) as opposed to FMIC?
I know Harvey has been good enough to organise a GB for the Hybrid version, twice, and that its a huge saving over other brands, but I cant quite get my head around why the TMIC is so limited, I am aware of the heat issue, as well as the obvious size difference.
Does anyone have a simlar set up (with decat and filter) on a TMIC to be able to show power/torque figures?
I know its been done before but cant search, sorry.

I changed my TD04 on my 99 Impreza GT to a TD05 some months ago and that took the car to 312 BHP and 392 nm with a EcuTek map from EMS.

That is with full decat and original TMIC with samco hoses.

Kindest regards

Rasmus,
thanks for the reply, and nice figures!!

I would be well happy with those results, I just dont want the cost of front mount if it can be helped.

If you're not gonna be taking it on a track, and you're not after massive power/torque, I'm sure the TMIC would be more than sufficient. Also, the TD05 won't be working as hard to flow the same (or a bit higher) amount of air, so the charge temp shouldn't be as high. Surely with a programmable ECU, you could simply map around the limitations of the TMIC though...?

I have just had my car mapped by BRD. P1 with OE top mount, and a Hybrid turbo with 550's. I have fitted a larger scoop, Waterspray, and have spent alot of time taking care of heat issues, and the car flies!! The TMIC limits the ultimate performance of the Turbo, but as The Judge says, the Charge Temp will be a little lower anyway, car will be OK and quick on the road. Will be a bit risky for track days etc.. Use booster if you can, to keep det at bay as much as poss!

im in the process of getting a custom made top mount intercooler which is just over 50% bigger than OE and im hoping this will help me up in the bhp figures plus i think im going to fit an STi 8 bonnet scoop so more air can get into the intercooler,
richwild runs 380bhp and 330lbs torque and all he has is aftermarket top monut

I think that upto 350bhp can be obtained with the older TMICs .....

I'm about 320bhp (I reckon) with and APS top mount, when mapping the highest charge temps were about 38degrees........

Thats at 6800 rpm in 4th, and been run full throttle from 2000, not quite what you'd get from a fmic but not too bad i'd say. (TD05/06 1.3 bar boost or a shade more, and uk internals)

I'm running an aftermarket TMIC (APS) with STi scoop, auto waterspray and soon to be water injection. That with extra heat shields that I've made myself and cooling ducts, I'm hoping to be in the 450 bhp range - once I've done the gearbox/diff and a remap. I'd sure that will be the absolute limits of my setup though - I'm sure gunna be happy with it!

She's was setup to 370 bhp with Scoobysport, but I've upped the boost since then by .2 bar!
