Question What's a 'Twin port' engine?

Noticed this phrase on several competition Scoobys, what is it refering to?
Just curious.

No. I don't think so. the cars are professional rally cars, WRC level and such like, and they are classic Scoobys.

Mmmm, don't know, being 16valve, they all have two ports in, and two ports out of the cylinder, surely thats just too simple though eh??

Not sure, but on the older scoobys they only had one exhaust/intake port externally which was siamesed between the two cylinders - I'm guessing it's refering to the fact that each cylinder has it's own port.

From the old bikes we have. We have an Ariel Red Hunter with a Single cylinder Twin port Engine.

In this case it meant there was 2 exhaust ports and thus two exhaust pipes from the head for a single cylinder.

Or you could go on to Mini's the A series had twin lnlet ports each sharing two cylinders, so that could be described as the above as well!
