can some one put my mind a rest??
Hi guys, reecently i put a de-catted downpipe from a uk 99 classic on to my uk 97 classic, since doing this ive been told its the wrong one isnt compatiable, it shouldnt sound like that ( it sounds a bit raspy from inside the car) can any one give me a deffinate answer as to weather its ok to have it on there.
the only other point is when it went on with the old gasket it didnt leak at all when it had a new gasket it did ( at the top of down pipe near turbo)
its got some gun gum round the joint that has stoped it leaking but isnt ideal.
Regards
Pete

I'm just being picky here...but I don't think ALL classic downpipes are the same IIRC
The pre 97 scoobies had different turbos, and thus will have different fittings on the down pipe.
(hides whilst some smartarse corrects me )
But otherwise yes, a 99 downpipe should be be same as a 97.
Oh BTW DO NOT use any sealants (especially silcone based one) upstream of the oxygen sensor and catalysts (if you still have one ), as the gases given off when it burns is likely to contaminate it.

The exhaust side would mate up ok but the compressor side needs converting to front entry.
Andy F does these to fit MY97 onwards
And to add.......
My downpipe sounded a bit tinny when first installed and new, this wears off slightly as the soot and exhaust deposits build up inside. Lagging the downpipe will also reduce this noise.

All are the same - however I had loads of difficulty with mating my downpipe to the turbo without a leak on my MY93 - turned out to be the studs having worn, the connection could not be made tight enough. This caused a leak and a definite blowing noise from the exhaust!
Would suggest changing all the studs at the mating of the turbo and downpipe! Not to anything different - just to new ones - MY93 means these studs are over 10 years old now!!!
