What Gaskets for Downpipe?

Fitting a DP as soon as possible....
I know I need one of those chunky gaskets for between the centre section & the Downpipe, but do I need a gasket for between the top of the Downpipe & the manifold(?) bit?
What is the precise size of said gaskets for when I go to a parts shop. Not going to Subaru, they charge a fortune.

Where do you live? I work by St. Davids Park.... mail us and we can ,meet up some time.
I'll fit it myself, got access to a ramp and I like doing this sort of thing anyway. Mail me and we can sort out to do yours also if you want......Besides an extra pair of habds makes these jobs easier if you fancy

Re-use the top gasket.
There is no gasket on the Lambda sensor, just tighten with 22mm spanner.
Re-use the bottom olive gasket, prise it off the old pipe - carefully and push on the new one. Re tighten the bolts with the springs until the bolt flange makes solid contact with the bracket.
Allow 4 hours for the whole job as getting the turbo nuts/bolts off is 'tricky'.

So there is no gasket at the top of the DP then????????????????????
What size is the gasket at the bottom if I want to get one from the local exhaust shop? If I ask for an Impreza Turbo one specifically they get all perplexed and start quoting daft prices.
Also, what do you use on the thread for the lambda sensor....surely not just PTFE tape (too hot down there ain't it)

Axel stands will be fine although ramps are better (portable static jobbies not car lifts).
You will need an assistant when removing from under the car and replacing, to help line up on the turbo studs. Oh an BTW the mounting brackets can get in the way lower down the pipe.
Remove the I/C, then the Lambda, heat shield, turbo nuts, bottom knuckle joint nuts then middle bracket and remove. Tada!

Turbo to DP gasket will be fine (stainless steel), be carefull withe the DP to Mid 'ring'. and remember, its 1000 times easier when you remove the intercooler first

I have removed intercooler before, no probs there.... but had not consdered doing it for this job, thanks for the advice.
If I were to get the car on axle stands and take out the intercooler, can I do the job without a ramp? The reason i ask is because...
A. Wanted to do the job myself anyway.
B. I am perfrectly capable of doing it myself, why pay garage £100ish (unless I need a ramp)
c. Want the DP on like yesterday please...and the garage is busy till late next week and my friend with a ramp says 3 weeks (v.busy chap)

I live near Denbigh, even though I've changed engines and gearboxes on an autograss car I used to have, I wouldn't risk doing the job on my own car myself, some mention heating up the top bolts to prevent the thread stripping
just my own bit of advice

I cahenged mien myself, I'm not a mechanic, but I can weild a mean spanner.
I got the car up up portable ramps, you have to be mighty careful due to the overhang on the front bumper, you'll need a bit of wood or something to make the slope longer.

John Stevenson.....you are right, did mine on axle stands.
Well, actually I backed it onto portable ramps...jacked the front & put it on axle stands. Whipped off the intercooler, one of the bolts was shagged holding the intercooler bracket too the engine block. I ended up taking the edges off the bolt, so I hammered on a 7/16th's or whatever it was and got it off with that....bolt now in bin (fortunately have spares)
How many bolts for the turbo heatshield????? Took ages to get them off but DP bolts were not that tight?!?!? Took about 2.5 hours to get the sod off... but put the newbie on in about 30 minutes. Centre gasket blows a touch..but not noticably...think I will change it ASAP though.
Very pleased with the result, Car seems to accelerate better (though I expected to lose some torque from my understanding of these things). Getting about an extra 0.75 Bar I reckon.
I think the engine is running about 5'c hotter... ..is this because I haven't got any lagging on the DP????
Oh, and I'm louder too...

You are correct about the overhang/ramp problem...hence I used the axle stands in the end.

Was worth the cash I reckon.... any DP will be an improvment over the original catted job. Besides could sell it for what I paid & I went over it with some metal cleaner & 'wet&dry'....it came up like new

Was worth the cash I reckon.... any DP will be an improvment over the original catted job. Besides could sell it for what I paid & I went over it with some metal cleaner & 'wet&dry'....it came up like new

Got an extra 0.75 bar of boost hey. Not bad,so you'll be making 1.74 bar in total now.You should have about 350 hp with that much boost LOL
By the way I bought a turbo to downpipe gasket the other day from E S Jones.It was £12 if anybody's interested.

Do you mean the steel gasket for £12? I seem to remember ES Jones charging similar money for that chunky one between the DP and the centre section....thought that ws mighty pricey for what it is....Especially so given the garage where I originally borrowed a ramp to fit the centre section had a load of them (4 or 5 unused) all hooked on a spike by the ramp!(Too late for me though as I had already been shopping to ES Jones)

Yeah..... I remember buying one of them from Subaru once But, fact is you can go to your local exhaust centre and they will have one to fit there for about 1/10th the cost..... annoying isn't it!
First time around I was,
A. Impatient so had to get one from Subaru
B. Not knowledgable to know that it wasn't some super dooper spec gasket that could only be surprised by Subaru and not 'Bob's Garage' down the road.
