HELP-HELP NOISY MY03 ON START UP
Anybody else noticed this,it appears to sound like bottom end rumble/knock but it more noticable when the excelerator is pushed and then dissapears after 5 seconds ish.Car has only done 6k and has been doing this for last 1.5k.I have taken it in to my local dealer but it only appears when stood overnight so its a bit difficult to prove.I have had a MY00 scooby and never noticed this noise maybe due to the loud exhaust.
Thanks

The same with mine (WRX03) from 500km on the clock! I tried 3 different oils on services with no luck.
It is like piston slap but less noisy (or it's piston slap!), unfortunately Subaru doesn't recognize this problem on new age cars and told me that about 500ml of oil between changes is normal consumption for this MY as my car suffer also from this! The noise is present after 1-2mins of warm-up and usualy below 1400-1350rpms, stays there for 5-10mins with no other symptoms so far and I have many reports from other WRX/STI03 owners that their cars drink some oil too.
Welcome to the club, yours drinks?

I must admit i was a bit shocked and the old cheeks nipped a bit when i checked the oil at 3500miles and there was no oil showing on the dip stick, but I have kept an eye on it since and the level has not moved since i topped it up.I have read threads before that seem to suggest that new engines do use a little oil until they are run in and i am not to concerned about the oil.
Anyone else with a bit of info advise please??????

Mine has always growled its nuts off when cold (MY03, now 10k miles).
Quietens down when warm.
Used a one litre bottle of oil on two occassions since its 1000 miles service, but I do tow with it and it gets a fair bit of stick

My MY01 wasnt the quietest when cold, i always used Mobil Motorsport oil but when i switched to Motul 300V it was cured with no more cold start rattling.
I too worried it was something major but was told no problems were evident on these later engines and the oil swap seemed to confirm this.
